For this month’s club night, we decided to mix things up and head somewhere different, taking a ride down to The Cabin Dairy in Burnham-on-Crouch for their Tuesday bike night.
The Ride Down
We had a decent crew heading out: Pistol, Ace, Baldrick, Dan Couse, plus Jerry and Phil from a local HOG chapter, who arrived aboard their Harleys.
We met at the Shell garage, where Quartermaster Lee Blondini handed over Baldrick’s new patches. After a minor RVP mix-up between Lee and me, he eventually tracked us down and we were soon on our way.
We set off at around 5pm. Traffic was fairly heavy, so progress was slow, but we all arrived safely together.
The Cabin Dairy
The Cabin Dairy turned out to be a cracking little venue.
The team couldn’t have been more welcoming, took a genuine interest in the club and even invited us back, so I’m fairly certain this won’t be our last visit.
It was a quieter club night in terms of numbers, but sometimes the smaller meets are just as enjoyable. We spent a good couple of hours chatting, laughing and, naturally, eating.
I went for the Cabin Dairy burger, a Coke and a cup of tea, with the whole lot coming to just over a tenner. The food was spot on and the price was more than reasonable.
We also got chatting to Sam, a first responder nurse who noticed the Phoenix patch and became interested in what the club is about. She has since joined our recruitment group to get a feel for how we operate and potentially join us in future.
Unfortunately, despite attending an actual bike night, we somehow managed to take precisely zero photographs of the bikes.
Absolute schoolboy error.
We did at least remember a group photo, but next time somebody is definitely getting tasked with photographing the machinery.
All in all, it was a cracking evening with good company, good food and a very welcoming venue.
Looking Ahead
Next up for Phoenix 99 is the Lost Saints Ride, meeting at the Ace Cafe before riding down to the UK Police Memorial on The Mall.
It’ll be our first ride alongside the Lost Saints, and the crew are looking forward to representing Phoenix 99 on what promises to be a very different kind of club outing.
Ride safe and look after each other.
